The Nevada Immigrant Coalition Urges Congress To Reject Any Additional Funding For ICE
Las Vegas, NV – This week, Trump and conservatives in Congress will once again attempt to force through another blank check for ICE and Border Patrol. This new surplus of over $70 billion is in addition to the unprecedented $170 billion in slush funds that were already included in President Trump’s “Big Ugly Bill” last year, which came with severe cuts to SNAP and Medicaid funding.
Noé Orosco, Coalition Coordinator of the Nevada Immigrant Coalition, issued the following statement:
“Trump and the conservatives in Congress are pouring billions into family separation and state-sanctioned violence, while working families across the country are being squeezed from every direction and struggling to make ends meet. The reconciliation bill doesn’t do a thing to lower gas prices, groceries, or healthcare costs. $70 billion dollars could fund SNAP benefits for 30 million people or hire nearly 745,000 elementary school teachers for a year.
There can be no more blank checks for ICE and Border Patrol as they continue to terrorize immigrant workers, kidnap children from their parents, forcibly detain and remove U.S. citizens, deport lawfully present immigrants, and stomp all over our constitutional rights. Congress must not approve any additional funding for ICE and Border Patrol and instead focus on bringing down the cost of living that working families are facing.”

The Nevada Immigrant Coalition (NIC), led by the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN), Culinary Union, and Make the Road Nevada, with support from over 20 statewide partners, has mobilized in response to the surges in ICE activity in Northern and Southern Nevada.
The Nevada Immigrant Coalition (NIC) urges members of the immigrant community to know their rights, have family preparedness plans in place, and be aware of ICE officers in plainclothes and unmarked vehicles. All Nevadans, regardless of immigration status, have rights and deserve due process.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS:
If ICE stops you . . .
*You have the right to remain silent. You do not have to answer any questions regarding your immigration status, where you were born, or how you entered the United States.
*Do not physically resist a government official, and do not run away.
*If you have any valid immigration documents, show them to the ICE officers.
If ICE comes to your home . . .
*You have the right not to open the door.
*You may remain silent and not answer any questions.
*You have the right to refuse any official wishing to enter without a warrant. A warrant must be shown to you and must have your correct name and address on it.
If ICE takes you into custody . . .
*Ask to speak with an attorney.
*Do not sign any document that you do not understand. Even if the ICE officers are persistent and want to pressure you, do not sign.
*Request to see the immigration judge. In most cases, you may be able to ask for bail in order to be released from custody.
*You have the right to request to contact your country’s consulate for help.
*If you have minor children, let the officers know that you are the parent or primary caregiver.
*ICE may “exercise discretion” and let you go.
The Nevada Immigrant Coalition urges Nevadans to know which documents to carry in order to protect themselves during targeted ICE activity.
